DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - The director of Dayton VA Medical Center in southwestern Ohio is returning to his job there after serving as interim director of the Phoenix VA since July.

Glen Costie was sent to Phoenix this summer to serve as interim director there after an investigation into extreme wait times and scheduling procedures at the Arizona center that allegedly resulted in the deaths of at least 40 veterans. The Dayton VA says Costie resumes leadership of the Dayton center on Thursday.

Sharon Helman was placed on administrative leave as director of the Phoenix center in May. That was after the release of a VA inspector general report that held her responsible for manipulation of patient appointment data and other problems.

Costie has been director of the Dayton VA since 2011.
