CARLISLE, Iowa (AP) - A 29-year-old Iowa man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1zxMZ42 ) Daniel Ward of Pleasant Hill was found guilty of third-degree sexual abuse after charges of kidnapping, lascivious acts with a child and enticing a minor were dropped. It’s unclear why the charges were removed.

Authorities say Ward met the girl on a messaging application called Kik. They say he took her to a Carlisle park before assaulting her.

A judge sentenced him to an indeterminate prison sentence of no more than 10 years. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
