LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles man who killed an 80-year-old woman nearly four decades ago has been sentenced to life in state prison.

Fifty-five-year-old Dennis Vazquez was sentenced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Vazquez was 17 in December 1975 when he strangled Alice Lewis during a burglary at her Venice home. Her body was found the next morning.

Vazquez was arrested in 2009 after DNA testing identified him a suspect. In September, he was convicted of first-degree murder.

A second man, 55-year-old Kevin Shanahan, also was charged with the killing but a judge declared him incompetent to stand trial and he was sent to a state mental hospital.
