FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Clint Ashcraft has turned Conway into a consistent winner since he was hired following the 2008 season.

The Wampus Cats coach will have a chance to deliver his first undefeated regular season when the No. 1 team in the state travels to No. 5 Bryant on Friday night.

Conway (9-0) was 5-7 in Ashcraft’s first season in 2009, but it’s won at least eight games every year since. This season, the Wampus Cats answered early challenges from Cabot and Jonesboro, and a win on Friday would give them their first undefeated conference record since the Peyton Hillis-led 2001 team.

The Hornets (8-0-1) tied rival Benton in their first game of the season, but they have run the table since - including a convincing 38-21 in over Class 6A power Greenwood three weeks ago.
