RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man remains jailed after being arraigned on a grand jury indictment in the stabbing death of an 18-year-old woman.

Adam Saalfield of Huntington Station pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges Thursday in the Oct. 12 stabbing death of Maggie Rosales.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1tEPxIN ) reports that prosecutors have video surveillance of Saalfield approaching the victim from behind and then falling on the ground with her.

Defense attorney John LoTurco said the video does not clearly show his client’s face. He also says authorities have not identified a motive.

The 21-year-old Saalfield has been held without bail since his arrest on Oct. 29.

Prosecutors say the Walt Whitman High School senior was walking along the street near a gas station, wearing earphones, when she was attacked from behind.
