JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - The mayor of a northeastern Arkansas city says he still doesn’t know who owns the former Citizens Bank building.

Safety concerns about the building and a two-story structure attached to it have increased in recent weeks in Jonesboro. Officials removed exterior wall panels on the two-story structure because they feared the deteriorating pieces, which weigh several hundred pounds, could fall and harm pedestrians.

Mayor Harold Perrin has ordered the sidewalk near the building to be roped off.

Perrin told Jonesboro City Council members Tuesday that he met with representatives of a Memphis developer about the former bank building. He says it’s still unclear who actually owns the building.

The Jonesboro Sun (https://bit.ly/1AsQY3e ) reports that whoever does own the building owes about $35,000 in back taxes.
