TAYLOR, Mich. (AP) - A man who spent more than 14 hours inside a suburban Detroit home after firing shots at police has surrendered.

The man gave up Thursday afternoon following negotiations with police in Taylor.

Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said the man and officers exchanged dozens of gunshots after officers went to the home about 11 p.m. Wednesday and found someone firing shots. No injuries were reported.

Residents were urged to stay inside homes Thursday or avoid the area. WWJ-AM reported that some neighbors were evacuated. Sclabassi also said a nearby school was closed for the day as a precaution.

Sclabassi said police were called to the home in recent days because of an apparent dispute involving the man and neighbors.
