PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Traffic is being diverted near a Philadelphia bridge after a construction crew struck a gas line and sparked a small explosion and fire.

Police and firefighters responded Thursday morning to the 300 and 400 blocks of Race Street in the city’s Old City neighborhood.

A nearby hostel was evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Officials blocked off several blocks of Race Street and asked motorists to avoid the area, near the entrance to the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Crews were making emergency repairs to the ruptured gas line.
