BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Southern Vermont College in Bennington is getting a new president.

The college trustees announced Wednesday that David Rees Evans will succeed President Karen Gross who is leaving to work in Washington.

Evans is coming to Southern Vermont College from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he served as a vice president and dean of the faculty.

Southern Vermont trustee Ira Wagner says Evans was selected from a field of more than100 candidates.

Evans will start his new job on Jan. 1.

He says he’s excited and honored to be part of the Southern Vermont community.

Southern Vermont College offers what it describes as “a career-enhancing liberal arts education” for about 500 students.
