HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston jury has convicted a doctor and his clinic administrator in a $2.1 million Medicare fraud scheme.

Federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that 44-year-old Dr. Dennis Barson of Austin and 54-year-old Dario Juarez of Beeville were found guilty of conspiracy and health care fraud after a seven-day trial.

Thirty-seven-year-old assistant medical director Edgar Shakbazyan pleaded guilty in October on health care fraud charges.

Prosecutors say the men submitted fraudulent billing for tests that weren’t preformed. They say the men billed for 429 patients over a two-month period in 2009 at a Houston medical clinic.

Barson and Juarez are scheduled to be sentenced in January. Shakbazyan’s court date is set in February.
