BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (AP) - Buckhannon’s mayor has resigned because of health reasons.

Media outlets report that Kenny Davidson announced his resignation last week during a City Council meeting. Effective Saturday, City Recorder Richard Edwards is handling the position’s responsibilities until the next mayoral election in May 2016.

Davidson says he decided to step down after consulting with his doctor. The 70-year-old says his doctor has wanted him to reduce his stress level for more than a year.
