TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A man who police say was killed by his girlfriend’s father, an off-duty Tulsa police officer, died from two gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.

The report said Jeremy Lake was hit once in the neck and once in the chest Aug. 5. It’s not clear which wound happened first, the report said, only that the bullet that entered through Lake’s neck took a sharp turn, puncturing his right lung before hitting his heart.

Police said Lake was walking with Shannon Kepler’s daughter when the veteran officer pulled up in a vehicle and fired multiple shots. The next day, Kepler’s daughter said her boyfriend was carrying a knife when he was shot as he went to greet her father.

The autopsy report said Lake had a black pocketknife in his right front pocket.

Kepler was charged with first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill. He was released from jail Aug. 22 on $825,000 bond.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is set to return to court later this month for a preliminary hearing, the Tulsa World reported (https://bit.ly/1ozDZ5l ).

Kepler’s attorney, Richard O’Carroll, has given little indication of what his client’s defense will be in court, only saying that “he doesn’t think much of (the witnesses) . and I do think a great deal of our defense.”
