BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Shopping has gotten a bit more expensive in Burleigh and Morton counties.

With October starting, a half-cent sales tax goes into effect to pay for a $70 million combined county jail. The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1tdZ0Uy ) that the additional tax will be applied to items that currently are taxed in the two counties.

Voters in both counties approved the additional sales tax in June. It will pay for a 476-inmate jail in southeast Bismarck. The facility is expected to start holding prisoners in early 2017.
