GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Washington County is planning to add a splash pad to land next to the local convention center.

The splash pad is basically a playground that douses visitors with water. Water sprays up from nozzles set in a concrete floor.

County Buildings and Grounds director Boris Brandon tells the Delta Democrat-Times (https://bit.ly/1qSwSV3 ) the splash pad will cost around $10,000. He says the convention center will host a cheerleading competition Nov. 8 to help raise funds for the project.

Brandon says the county is trying to create a place for families to spend their time on the weekend and have fun.

Brandon says he visited splash pads in Gulfport and at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park.

Brandon says the county will save money by having its workers build and maintain the splash pad.
