SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Salt Lake County prosecutors have dropped 14 charges of prescription drug fraud against an assistant fire chief with the Unified Fire Authority.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill asked a judge to dismiss the charges against Unified Assistant Fire Chief Marlon Jones on Tuesday.

Gill says in court documents that after reviewing evidence and testimony in the case, he doesn’t believe prosecutors have enough to convict Jones.

Defense attorney Tyler Ayres says 49-year-old Jones has always followed directions from his doctors and never abused medication.

Ayres says his client saw three doctors over 11 years for separate medical needs.

Jones had been on paid administrative leave since the charges were filed in May of 2013.
