FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - An 18-year-old Flagstaff man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in the strangulation death of his mother.

The Arizona Daily Sun (https://bit.ly/1thMzHe) reports that Zachariah Pine was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Mark Moran of Coconino County Superior Court.

Pine previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 52-year-old Becky Pickering.

Police said Pine called 911 on Feb. 20 to report that his mother wasn’t breathing.

She was found unconscious and lying on the kitchen floor with a pool of blood around her heard. She died the next day at a hospital.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office said she died from strangulation.
