DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Greyhound Association has formally requested a license to operate a dog racing track in Dubuque next year.

An official from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission tells the Telegraph Herald (https://bit.ly/1rwh3K1 ) the license application was received Wednesday, the final day an application could be submitted.

The association wants to be able to take over Dubuque Greyhound Park for at least five years for a nominal fee. Racing operations will be done at the existing Mystique Casino track but will be an independent business.

A law approved earlier this year allows casinos in Council Bluffs and Dubuque to cease greyhound racing. Part of the law gives the greyhound association the right to run the track in Dubuque. The casinos will also pay industry participants a total of $72 million.
