SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A journalist who has written critically of BART and its police has lost his lawsuit claiming officers were retaliating for his coverage when they arrested him for blocking a gate during a protest.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1sMZOFp) that a seven-member jury unanimously rejected David Morse’s claims after a weeklong trial.

Morse’s lawsuit alleged that Bay Area Rapid Transit police were punishing him for his criticism when they took him into custody during a September 2011 demonstration at the Powell Street Station.

Morse was held in handcuffs for more than two hours before being released. A judge later dismissed the charges against him.

Morse writes Internet articles under the pen name of Dave Id for Indybay, the San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center. His articles have accused BART police of racism and cover-ups.
