GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - The leader of the Gadsden and Etowah County chamber of commerce says lack of participation has prompted the cancellation of the annual Veterans Day Parade.

The Gadsden Times (https://bit.ly/YOhq6b ) reports Chamber President Heather Brothers New told city council members on Tuesday that planning this year’s parade is unfeasible because of a lack of interest from the public and military-related groups.

New says two participants signed up for the parade.

New told local leaders that the chamber doesn’t want to produce a parade that wouldn’t honor veterans in a respectful and dignified manner.

Councilman Ben Reed, a member of the Patriots Association, says planning for the parade should have started earlier and local officials are in a good position to begin planning now for next year’s event.
