INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to life in prison in the murder of a man on a rural walking trail during what authorities called a drug-related robbery last year.

Thirty-five-year-old Gregory Patterson of Glen Campbell was convicted of second-degree murder in Indiana County in the June 2014 death of 46-year-old James Alexander.

The Indiana Gazette (https://bit.ly/1vudmCT ) reports that Judge Thomas Bianco sentenced him Monday to life and an additional 44½ to 102 years for related convictions.

Prosecutors said Patterson and 24-year-old Christopher Salsgiver plotted to rob Alexander because they believed he had ripped them off during previous heroin deals.

State police and prosecutors alleged that Patterson forced Alexander to sit and shot him in the head.

Patterson blamed Salsgiver, who is scheduled for trial later this month.
