PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a motorcycle driver is dead after hitting a wooden guard rail post in Phoenix.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old William Thomas Griffith.

Phoenix police say he lost control of his motorcycle about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and it struck a curb and then hit a wooden guard rail post.

Griffith was thrown from the motorcycle and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Griffith was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and it’s still unknown if speed or impairment was a factor.
