FLORDELL HILLS, Mo. (AP) - A suburban St. Louis police officer is facing charges for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from a police evidence room.

St. Louis County authorities say 31-year-old Jeremy Quate is charged with stealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He is jailed on $10,000 bond and does not yet have an attorney.

Quate, who lives in Belleville, Ill., is an officer for the small police force in Flordell Hills, Missouri. Police say Quate was involved in a one-car accident Saturday and taken to a hospital. While there, police say he was found to be in illegal possession of alprazolam. He allegedly admitted taking the drug from the Flordell Hills evidence room.
