HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police say an officer has fatally shot a man who fought with another officer and fired a gun.

Spokesman Victor Senties says the shooting happened Tuesday in the parking lot of Baybrook Mall. Undercover officers were patrolling the area after a series of burglaries and called uniformed officers to stop a car.

Senties says the female driver cooperated with authorities but the male suspect struggled when he was being handcuffed. He says the suspect pulled out a gun and the officer struggled for control of it before the suspect fired a shot toward the officer.

Senties says another officer ordered the man to drop the weapon before shooting him.

One officer was treated for minor cuts.

They haven’t released the man’s identity or the names of the officers involved.
