SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) - Police in Superior are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever fatally shot a young man at his home.

Officials say 20-year-old Garth Velin was pronounced dead not far from the scene of the shooting Tuesday night.

Velin’s girlfriend told investigators she was upstairs when she heard gunshots, went downstairs and found Velin on the floor unresponsive.

Officers moved the unconscious man across the street to a sidewalk while the house was searched. Velin’s girlfriend is not a suspect.

Police have made no arrests. Superior Police Chief Charles LaGesse says authorities don’t believe the shooting was random.

WDIO-TV reports Velin graduated from Superior High School in 2012. School officials say they are prepared to help grieving students.
