TURNER, Maine (AP) - A motorcycle rider involved in an accident with an SUV on Route 4 in Turner has died.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department says 41-year-old Gary Michaud died at the hospital at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, about five hours after the accident.

Witnesses told investigators that the motorcycle was waiting to exit a shopping center at about 3:30 p.m. at the same time two vehicles were traveling north on Route 4. The first vehicle signaled to turn into shopping center. Police say it appears as if the motorcycle operator did not see the second vehicle, pulled out into its path and was struck broadside.

The SUV driver, a 58-year-old Hartford woman, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center for evaluation.

The accident remains under investigation.
