CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Police in Kanawha County say a teenager has been charged in a break-in at a middle school.

Sheriff’s Cpl. B.D. Humphreys says 18-year-old Christopher Ian Shamblen of East Bank was arrested Tuesday on charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny and third-degree arson.

Humphreys says the break-in occurred Monday at East Bank Middle School. After Shamblen’s arrest, authorities recovered a flat-screen television, a laptop computer, a video game console and a pair of athletic shoes that were taken from the school.

The arson charge alleges Shamblen lit a newspaper in an attempt to ignite rifle shells that were taped together at an East Bank convenience store on Monday.

Shamblen was released on bond later Tuesday from the South Central Regional Jail. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.
