RACINE, Wis. (AP) - An 8-year-old boy is critically injured after he was struck by a car when he was trying to cross a street in Racine.

Police say the boy was trying to cross Washington Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday when he was hit. The preliminary investigation show the boy was hit by an eastbound sport-utility vehicle, then thrown into the westbound traffic lane. The Racine Journal Times reports (https://bit.ly/1yglk79 ) the boy then slid underneath a westbound car, but he was not run over.

The boy was flown to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa for treatment of his injuries.
