THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A 27-year-old Bridge City man faces multiple charges, including negligent homicide, stemming from a traffic crash in Thibodaux last weekend that killed his 5-year-old son.

Thibodaux Chief of Police Scott Silverii announced the arrest of Yonni Matthews on Friday.

Police said the accident happened last Saturday night. A car driven by Matthews crashed into the rear of a Honda pilot, which sent the Honda into the rear of a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Matthews, his son, and passengers in the other vehicles were rushed to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where the 5-year-old died.

In addition to negligent homicide, Matthews faces charges including vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation, possession of marijuana, and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond at the Lafourche (Lah-FOOSH’) Parish Detention Center was set at $164,750.
