WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) - Officers say a car leaving a smash-and-grab theft at a jewelry store gave officers the slip early Thursday by heading against the traffic flow on Interstate 5.

KGW-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1ng8yS5) a customer at a Taco Bell heard breaking glass at Wilsonville Diamond about 1:30 a.m. and saw three people.

Officers were called and gave chase on freeways south of Portland. They quit when the car turned south in the northbound lanes.

Detectives said the thieves used a hammer on the jeweler’s window. The store is doing an inventory to determine what was stolen.

Wilsonville police said they were looking for a gray 1994 Nissan Pathfinder with peeling paint, a spare tire missing from its rear mount and Oregon license 662 GGE.
