HARSENS ISLAND, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have filed charges in a boat crash that killed two people near Harsens Island.

The Times Herald in Port Huron (https://bwne.ws/1D1ZPXz) reports that Brandon Verfaillie is facing two counts of being drunk and causing death while operating a boat. St. Clair County Prosecutor Mike Wendling says Verfaillie was operating a speedboat that crashed into a cabin cruiser in August in a channel of the St. Clair River.

The victims were 57-year-old Robert Koontz of Chesterfield Township and 68-year-old Nancy Axford of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The prosecutor says investigators had been waiting for toxicology results. Verfaillie could not be reached for comment Friday. No phone number is listed.
