LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Chelsea man charged with two counts of murder for allegedly gunning down two brothers in Lowell has been held without bail.

The Sun (https://bit.ly/1ssjc93 ) reports that Dara Poum pleaded not guilty on Thursday to killing Keith and Joseph Callahan in their apartment on Aug. 10.

The 28-year-old Poum has been in custody since his Aug. 20 arrest. He was initially arraigned on Aug. 21 on a fugitive from justice charge after Rhode Island officials indicated they wanted him returned to face a probation violation.

Authorities say Poum was linked to the killings by DNA on a cigarette butt found at the scene.

Prosecutors say the victims did not know Poum, who demanded to see someone who did not live in the apartment.

Poum’s lawyer did not argue for bail.
