JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says the Rhode Island governor’s race is winnable for the GOP and that he’ll return to the state to campaign for Cranston Mayor Allan Fung in his race against Democrat Gina Raimondo (ray-MAHN’-doh).

Christie is head of the Republican Governors Association and was in the state Friday to rally support for Fung.

He said he’d do everything he can to help the mayor but wouldn’t say whether his group will run TV ads.

Christie was greeted by a large crowd at an Italian restaurant in Johnston that included Democratic Mayor Joseph Polisena. He gave Christie a key to the town.

Raimondo’s high-profile backers include former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose political action committee plans to run TV ads for her.
