LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Anglers will have a new species of trout to try for in the Pole Mountain area between Cheyenne and Laramie.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says it has stocked more than 1,100 golden trout in 10 ponds. Department officials say all 10 ponds are easily accessible by road.

Golden trout are native to California but have been introduced in alpine lakes in Wyoming. The 8-inch trout being stocked at Pole Mountain come from a hatchery in the Sheridan area.

Game and Fish also keeps the area’s ponds stocked with brook trout.
