HOUSTON (AP) - A man has been charged in wrong-way collision that killed his passenger and injured a Harris County sheriff’s deputy.

The Harris County sheriff’s office says the man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault on a public service in the head-on collision early Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy’s marked patrol unit was traveling eastbound when his vehicle was hit. The woman riding in the car with the man charged was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man charged and the deputy were both seriously injured and airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where they remain.
