BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Fire Department says a man has been killed in a fire at a large six-family duplex in the city’s Roxbury section.

The fire broke out at the Winthrop Street building at about 9 p.m. and was soon went to five alarms. The fire department said it was contained about two hours later, but firefighters are expected to work through the night to bring it completely under control.

Sixty-three-year-old Delores Clark told The Boston Globe she was watching television in her third floor apartment when a smoke alarm went off. By the time she got to the first floor it was filled with smoke. She said she has lived there since 1968 “and it’s all gone.” She said she wasn’t able to bring her cat out.

The fire department said at least 30 residents were displaced.
