YORK, Pa. (AP) - A man convicted in the shooting death of a woman during what authorities said was the burglary of her south-central Pennsylvania home 4½ years ago has been sentenced to death.

Jurors in York County deliberated only about an hour Thursday before deciding that 41-year-old Timothy Jacoby deserved to be executed for the March 2010 slaying of 55-year-old Monica Schmeyer.

The same panel had deliberated three hours before convicting Jacoby of first-degree murder, burglary, robbery and evidence-tampering in the slaying.

Prosecutors argue that Jacoby deserves the death penalty because the murder was committed during another felony.

Defense attorneys cited lack of a violent criminal record and called relatives and friends to testify that the defendant had a normal upbringing, got good grades and served in the Air Force.
