NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - New Haven police say officers responding to a shooting exchanged gunfire with a man in the city’s West River neighborhood. No injuries were immediately reported.

Officer David Hartman says plain-clothed detectives were in West River shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday when they were alerted to a shooting between two parties. After the detectives arrived at the scene, at least two people believed to be involved in the shooting fled in a silver Dodge Charger with a Pennsylvania registration.

Hartman says the detectives chased the car, and a male passenger eventually fled from the car on foot. He says the man fired several shots at the detectives, who returned fire.

Hartman says the detectives weren’t struck. Officers continue searching for the man, who is considered armed and dangerous.
