ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico State Police patrol officer who was struck and injured by a drunk driver is headed back on duty.

The Roswell Daily Record reports (https://goo.gl/ng0wr0) that Carlos Verdugo is scheduled Friday to return to full duty after the June accident.

Lt. Emmanuel T. Gutierrez says Verdugo will be patrolling the streets of Lea County in full uniform.

Police said Verdugo was in his patrol car near an intersection in Hobbs when he was hit by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop. A 40-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of two aggravated DWI charges and one count each of reckless driving and great bodily harm by vehicle.

Verdugo survived but was seriously injured.
