NORWICH, Vt. (AP) - Officials in Norwich are considering banning dogs from sporting events held at the town’s Huntley Meadows athletic fields after two children were bit this summer.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/1s2ZdvL) that the town Selectboard this week discussed potential changes to the town’s animal control ordinance in response to the incidents, which happened in June and August. In the first case, a 2-year-old girl spent a night in the hospital and required stiches from her eye to her mouth.

Dog owners are asking town officials to make their plans clearer and more specific. Some called the proposed changes “heavy-handed.”

The Selectboard will hold a public hearing on the issue at its next meeting on Oct. 22.
