INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia State University is opening a new center that will conduct research and outreach initiatives focused on energy use and the environment.

The Charleston Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1yVJMfa ) that university President Brian Hemphill made the announcement in his annual State of the University address Thursday.

He said the new Energy and Environmental Science Institute will conduct a range of research addressing major energy and environmental issues of interest to West Virginians and society in general. Among the issues the institute will focus on are biofuels and environmental sustainability.
