ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Two St. George police officers have been cleared in the fatal shooting of a bank robbery suspect last month.

The Washington County Attorney’s Office says the officers were justified in shooting 37-year-old Benjamin Schroff during a shootout near the Virgin River.

Authorities say Schroff escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a St. George bank on Sept. 11 and took two female employees hostage by forcing them into a car.

He later left the hostages safe in the car after leading police on a chase and fled on foot to a field where he was killed.

No others were injured.
