WALKER, Mich. (AP) - A run is being held in honor of a western Michigan police officer who was run over and killed by two suspects fleeing from a bank robbery.

The third annual Trevor Slot Memorial 5K is planned for Saturday in Walker.

The 41-year-old Slot was killed Oct. 13, 2011, while laying down spike strips to stop a speeding sport utility vehicle on Interstate 96 near Grand Rapids.

The event kicks off with a ceremony honoring Slot at the Walker Police and Fire Memorial. The non-competitive 5K run is to begin 90 minutes later in front of the Walker Public Safety Building along a section of road named after Slot.

The run raises money for the Trevor P. Slot Foundation.
