WASHINGTON (AP) - Amtrak will be taking passengers to the N.C. State Fair when it opens next week.

Beginning Oct. 17, the Carolinian will make a special stop twice a day near the fairgrounds entrance in west Raleigh.

Passengers traveling from Charlotte, Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point, Greensboro, Burlington, Durham, and Cary will have easy access to the fair. The northbound Carolinian leaves Charlotte at 7 a.m. with a scheduled arrival at the fairgrounds at 10:08 a.m. The southbound Carolinian departs the fairgrounds at 4:56 p.m., with a scheduled arrival in Charlotte at 8:12 p.m.

The special stop, which is open through Oct. 26, is wheelchair accessible and the train has Wi-Fi.
