MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Ball State University has again canceled plans to spray herbicides on the lawns around its K-12 school while it looks at alternatives to control the spread of weeds

The Star Press reports (https://tspne.ws/1rnmPaP ) University President Paul Ferguson canceled the spraying at Burris Laboratory School after receiving a petition signed by parents, alumni and others complaining the spraying would expose children to chemical toxins. Former President Jo Ann Gora also canceled spraying a year ago after receiving a similar petition.

Ball State spokeswoman Joan Todd says a university task force will explore options to control weeds at the school.
