CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - Charles City officials have approved the purchase of technology updates for three city police cars that will allow officers to enter paperwork and reports from their cruisers.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1D3cl9d ) that the City Council on Monday approved the purchase of mobile data terminals for a total of nearly $21,000.

Currently, officers must go back to the police station to file paperwork.

Charles City Public Safety Director Mike Wendel says the terminals also will make it easier for officers to check on warrants.

Wendel says the terminals should be installed by the end of the year.
