HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto County is spending more than $600,000 on vehicles to repair roads and prevent erosion.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1rn7abt ) the board of supervisors authorized the purchase of 11 vehicles. The list includes a mini-excavator, a limb truck, a light truck, two boom tractors, two SUV trucks, two pickups and two “dually” trucks.

Road manager Andy Swims says all are replacement vehicles except for the mini-excavator, which is a new purchase. Swims says the county will now have five excavators in its fleet to deploy at departmental substations across the county.
