NEW YORK (AP) - The family of the man who died after being placed in a chokehold by an NYPD officer is hiring a new attorney.

Eric Garner died in July on Staten Island. A grand jury was convened last month to hear the case.

The Garner family, which has received help from the Rev. Al Sharpton, had previously hired lawyer Sanford Rubenstein.

But last week a leader of Sharpton’s National Action Network accused Rubenstein of sexual assault.

Rubenstein has not been charged. He removed himself from the Garner case, saying he did not want to be a distraction.

But Garner’s family members said they are cutting all ties with Rubenstein’s firm and are hiring civil rights attorney Jonathan Moore.

The announcement was made Saturday at Sharpton’s weekly rally in Harlem.
