STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A lightning strike has left the local CBS television affiliate scrambling just hours before the biggest home game in Mississippi State history.

WCBI-TV is about 25 miles from Starkville in Columbus, Mississippi. The station said on its website that its transmitter sustained “major damage” Friday night and engineers were working “around the clock” before Saturday afternoon’s game between No. 3 Mississippi State and No. 2 Auburn.

WCBI said it had “authorized all satellite and most cable companies in the viewing area to carry an alternate CBS affiliate” while the station is off the air.
