AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A man has been jailed in Augusta on charges that he gave a tattoo to a teenage girl.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1vWxayX ) 22-year-old James Andrew Wise was arrested Thursday on counts of illegal tattooing. An incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Wise tattooed the name “Shawn” on the girl’s arm after she asked him to do it.

Georgia law prohibits the tattooing of anyone under age 18, even if a minor’s parents consent to it, except for rare medical purposes. Violating the law is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison and fines of up to $1,000.

Wise was jailed on $5,900 bond. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
