BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Police say they used tear gas and evacuated some supporters after hundreds of firecrackers and smoke bombs were thrown before the 2016 European Championship qualifier between Romania and Hungary.

Tensions rose ahead of Saturday’s match, which ended 1-1.

Firecrackers and shouting drowned out the Hungary anthem before the match.

Interior ministry official Gabriel Oprea said 12,000 police and riot police were deployed for security, with an estimated 800 fans traveling by train from Hungary to the Romanian capital.

There were no immediate reports of arrests or injuries.
